Carb-Addict Diet: On The Web And TV

Ann RassmanWhen you look into the eyes of an infant, it's simple to see why a mother might do anything for her child. Going through pregnancy, mothers will do whatever they need -- even if it means having to gain a few pounds in the process. Ann Rassman knows that situation all too well.

When Ann became pregnant with her son, Riley, she still hadn't lost all the weight from her first child. Now, Riley's nearly six months old, and Ann is faced with one reality: her weight.

One thing she's figured out is her weight won't change until her eating habits do. As difficult a task as it sounds, she's come up with a plan.

"A lot of this, yeah, lettuce is the main thing you have to eat," Ann says as she prepares dinner.

Lettuce is the main ingredient in the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, a plan created by a husband and wife medical team. This is a diet Ann believes is custom-made for her.

"I am truly a carbohydrate addict. I truly am," she insists. Ann has taken the carbohydrate addict test in the book, and she believes every symptom described seems to fit her perfectly. The primary symptom she has is her tendency to eat more in a day when she starts eating earlier.

"That's me exactly," Ann says. "If I don't eat breakfast, I'm so better off. They say, oh, eat breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day. I am lost. If I eat breakfast, I'm eating the entire day."

She believes following the doctors' guidelines in their book will make the difference in her life. The difference in this diet, versus plans she's tried in the past, is its aim at conquering her addiction to her favorite types of foods.

The diet describes specific types of meals that can be eaten during the day. The first two meals are similar to those found in a high protein, no carbohydrate diet. Each is restricted to lots of protein combined with a high-fiber vegetable. The day's last meal differs. It is the reward meal. In that meal, Ann is allowed carbohydrates, but not just carbohydrates. In fact, a carbohydrate addict dieter can eat whatever they like for dinner -- as long as it's all consumed in an hour.

The last big ingredient is water. Ann should drink six to eight glasses a day.

Ann Cutting"I plan on getting the water out of the way right away during the day. Hopefully be done by like three o'clock. And then drink iced tea and make the whole evening like a reward situation," she says.

While she looks forward to the food rewards at the end of her day, Ann's hoping the real pay-off for her will come at the playground when she's able to follow her kids wherever they go.
