    Keeping The Faith

Popcorn Popcorn Popcorn "Keeping The Faith" may be low on inspiration, but it is high on fun and charm. Father Brian Finn (Edward Norton) and Rabbi Jacob Schram (Ben Stiller) are two cool clergymen. They were inseparable as children. As adults, despite their theological differences, they are still inseparable. What can separate them? The female part of their Three Musketeers act, affectionately called Anna Banana (Jenna Elfman) comes back to town and both fall instantly in love with her. But, of course, a priest can't marry and a rabbi is expected to find a good Jewish girl to settle down with so Anna's irresistible appeal causes the pair a comic conundrum. Seeing a dramatic actor like Norton pratfall his way down a church aisle is a bit odd, but he pulls it off with the help of comic vets Stiller and Elfman. "Keeping The Faith" is a heaven-sent comedy.

    Kingpin

I'd had many a guy-friend cuss me out up and down for not having seen this movie, so I rented it on a night my wife was out and about. There is one hilarious fight scene in the middle, but before and after this is a somewhat slow-moving, clunky movie. It's not a comedic failure like some are that make you want to turn off the VCR. And it certainly isn't a formula comedy. And, as usual, Woody Harrelson is excellent and Bill Murray is certainly "over the top" during his scenes. Good, goof-off weekend-afternoon feature.

Bill Murray stands out, but the laughs are few and far between. You'd think the combined talent of Murray, Woody Harrelson and Randy Quaid would produce at least an average movie. Not so. There are much better idiotic-humor movies out there, such as "Dumb and Dumber."

    A Kiss Before Dying

A worn-out storyline -- boy on wrong side of the tracks does good by marrying wealthy heiress -- is given a different twist here. Matt Dillon is excellent as said boy who does anything to achieve his dream, including murder. Sean Young plays twin heiresses and with this performance you can see why she hasn't acted in anything big in a long, long time. But the pace is solid (it lasts only slightly longer than 90 minutes), Dillon's performance makes the movie, and the ending isn't long and drawn out, unlike today's 15-minute chase scenes at the end of every action movie. A weekend night feature in a pinch, otherwise worth watching on a weeknight or weekend afternoon.

    Kiss The Girls

I was disappointed by this movie. You couldn't get away from the trailers that promised a "Silence of the Lamb"-esque flick and this one doesn't work nearly as well. The plot is shallow, none of the characters really "pull you in," and the hectic pace doesn't fell hectic. Glad to see Morgan Freeman cashing in and I will see Ashley Judd's next flick, but for this one: Wait until it shows up on cable or commercial TV.
