Lauryn Hill, Rapper DMX Top Source Awards

Hip-Hop Ceremony To Be Broadcast Friday

Lauryn HillLOS ANGELES, Posted 9:04 a.m. August 19, 1999 -- Rapper DMX, and former-Fugee Lauryn Hill were among the top winners in last night's The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards.

DMX took home the trophy for Best Solo Artist and Best Live Performer. Hill's freshman solo CD "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" won for Best Album. She also won for Best New Solo Artist.

The music awards, names after The Source magazine, were presented Wednesday at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. The presentation will be broadcast on UPN Friday.

After the show, some 1,200 people were cleared out of a party at the Hollywood Athletic Club after the fire marshal deemed the mass unsafe. No injuries or arrests were reported. (Full Story)
