With Mitt Romney now the all but certain republican presidential nominee... the question many are asking - who will be his running mate?
A new poll out gives us some insight into who republican voters think it should be.
Tory Dunnan has the story.
--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS --
REPUBLICANS ARE SURE TOSSING AROUND NAMES FOR MITT ROMNEY'S V-P PICK.
BUT ROMNEY'S CAMPAIGN SAYS IT'S STILL UP IN THE AIR.
we haven't put together list, the process of considering running mate has begun.
WHILE THERE MAY NOT BE AN OFFICIAL LIST YET - A NEW CNN/ORC POLL ASKED REPUBLICAN VOTERS WHO'D THEY'D LIKE.
VOTERS WERE GIVEN A SHORT LIST-- EIGHT POTENTIAL V-P CANDIDATES.
THEIR TOP CHOICE - FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE CONDELEEZZA RICE.
NOT FAR BEHIND- FORMER GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AND ROMNEY RIVAL, RICK SANTORUM.
the people who i have the privilege of running against would surely be among those I'd consider
NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE AND FLORIDA SENATOR MARCO RUBIO TIE FOR THIRD.
RUBIO SAYS NO WAY NO HOW.
CHRISTIE HAS BEEN MORE AMBIGUOUS ABOUT IT.
The fact is there's one person who decides who the running mate is, that's the nominee for president. And so it would be presumptuous of me to say anything about the vice presidency.
SO THAT'S THE REPUBLICAN SIDE.
ON THE FLIPSIDE, THERE'S THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET---IT'S MOST LIKELY TO BE OBAMA AND BIDEN.
BUT THE OPTION TO REPLACE BIDEN WITH SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON IS GETTING THROWN AROUND.
That is not going to happen. That's like saying if the Olympic Committee called you up and said are you ready to run the marathon would you accept. Well, it is not going to happen.
--REPORTER ON CAM TAG --
IN THE END, VOTERS WON'T DECIDE WHO THE V-P PICK IS.
IT'LL BE UP TO EACH CANDIDATE TO CHOSE HIS RUNNING MATE.
IN WASHINGTON, I'M TORY DUNNAN, BACK TO YOU.
