Shuttle that flew 39 missions to rest in Smithsonian
It flew more missions than any other space shuttle, and now Discovery is preparing to settle in its new home at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

THE COUNTRY WATCHED THE FINAL LAUNCH OF THE DISCOVERY AS NASA CLOSED ITS LAST CHAPTER OF THE SHUTTLE'S MISSION TO SPACE.
BUT NOW THE DISCOVERY IS STARTING A NEW MISSION -- IT'S BECOMING THE NEWEST ICON AT THE NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM AT THE DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. CURATOR VALERIE NEAL SAYS THIS MUSEUM IS A PERFECT CHOICE.
It's so rich with history that it is especially appropriate that it's here in the Smithsonian.
THE DISCOVERY'S RICH HISTORY INCLUDES 39 MISSIONS... THE MOST CREW MEMBERS OF ANY OTHER SHUTTLE AND IF YOU COMBINE ALL THE TIME ITS SPENT IN SPACE, IT ADDS UP TO ONE YEAR
We consider discovery to be the champ of the shuttle fleet.
WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN LOCALS HAVE A RARE CHANCE TO SEE THE DISCOVERY IN THE SKIES ONE LAST TIME.
TRAVELING TUESDAY FROM THE FLORIDA KENNEDY SPACE CENTER... DOCKED ON A 747... THE DISCOVERY WILL FLY AS LOW AS 15 HUNDRED FEET OVER THE AREA BEFORE SETTLING IN TO ITS NEW HOME.
DEPENDING ON WEATHER CONDITIONS... THE DISCOVERY WILL FLY BY ICONIC LANDMARKS THIS MORNING INCLUDING THE NATIONAL MALL... THE REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT AND THE NATIONAL HARBOR BEFORE LANDING HERE.
