A federal court overturned California's voter-approved gay marriage ban, known as Proposition 8, in 2010, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed it was unconstitutional in 2012. The Supreme Court is currently weighing an appeal of that decision. Gay marriages are on hold until further notice.
