Manager, News and Content

Job Summary:

The Manager of News and Content oversees the national news editors and all national-level editorial content that is distributed across the IB network of sites. This includes all news, weather, sports and feature content, both original and syndicated, that IB provides to its sites. This person also acts as the primary liaison between the national staff and IB clients, working to implement content-focused plans to support sales and business development initiatives. This is not a technical position, although working familiarity with basic Internet publishing technology is required. Primarily, this is a news management and content development position. The Manager of News and Content reports directly IB's Vice President of News and Content.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage national content staff

    Hire and/or supervise the hiring of national news, sports and feature editors, as well as interactive designer. Manage staff schedules, arrange training, manage personal time off/vacation time. Coach direct reports and mediate routine personnel issues. Administer annual performance reviews; communicate performance goals and feedback on an ongoing basis.

  2. Supervise national content

    Monitor the presentation and quality of national editorial content, including national breaking news, routine feature content, major planned events and custom content for special initiatives. Encourage editors to maximize the creative/interactive resources available to them. Direct the development of special sections to be the best they can be.

  3. Participate as a key member of IB’s content management team

    Participate in meetings with the content management team. Work to make sure that national content offerings meet the goals of IB clients and their sites.

  4. Act as liaison with other departments at IB’s headquarters

    Work closely with key staff in marketing, sales, executive and other departments to ensure News and Content's participation and leadership in key company initiatives.

  5. Keep IB’s content offerings relevant

    Work to identify key content areas/types that will keep IB's national content offerings on the cutting edge of the industry through development of new content or creation of strategic content partnerships with outside organizations.

Qualifications & Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) Required:

  • At least five years of full-time experience in journalism; at least two years in online news or online-related field. TV newsroom experience is preferred.
  • Significant management experience.
  • Advanced news judgment and ethical decision-making skills.
  • Strong familiarity with trends, economics and technologies influencing the evolution of online news.
  • Basic understanding of Internet publishing, Web hosting and multimedia production.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously and effectively with people of varying backgrounds -- from TV news directors to database programmers.
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines, performing multiple tasks simultaneously while under pressure.
  • Willingness to be interrupted and called upon to make editorial and staffing decisions at any time -- after hours, during weekends and on holidays.

Audience Analytics Specialist

Position Statement:

The audience analytics specialist is responsible for defining, tracking and analyzing audience KPIs associated with Internet Broadcasting's Web and mobile products. Day-to-day duties are tactical and hands-on, but the ideal candidate will be an inquisitive, strategic thinker as well. The audience analytics specialist must be able to identify the strategic implications of audience data, and communicate those insights to IB's leadership and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Internet Broadcasting's analytics expert, with detailed knowledge of the configuration and use of various analytics products including Google Analytics and comScore.
  • Work with content and product teams to identify audience engagement best practices and track the success of new initiatives.
  • Oversee the production and distribution of regularly-scheduled automated audience analytics reports.
  • Manually produce custom reports and in-depth analysis as needed.
  • Provide ad-hoc assistance to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Assist in troubleshooting analytics-related issues.
  • Role may grow to include SEO strategies and tactics.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2+ years experience as an analyst using Google Analytics and other leading tools such as Omniture and WebTrends.
  • High proficiency at data analysis and interpretation; ability to translate audience data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Experience creating dashboards and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Knowledge of current trends and leading vendors in audience analytics.
  • Experience managing analytics for media Web and mobile properties preferred.
  • SEO experience a plus.

Sr. Product Marketing Manager

Position Statement:

As a Product Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for outbound marketing activities for IB products and services. You will help craft messaging and positioning for products. Attention to detail and an eye for quality, along with the ability to grasp and translate technical capabilities into benefits is crucial. In your role as a Product Marketing Manager you will be the expert in buyers, how they buy and their buying criteria and will transfer that knowledge to the sales channel. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains intimate understanding of buyers.  Maintains close relationship to customers for awareness of needs and perspectives.   
  • Develops market requirements plans (identifies and prioritizes customers' and market's requirements, pain points and whole product issues).
  • Develop business cases for proposed products, including expected Return on Investment
  • Develops product/solution positioning (understands customers' needs and articulates how our solution will meet these needs relative to the competition.
  • Contributes to product life cycle mgmt. Recommends product marketing architecture to ensure consistent product life management, product/feature naming.
  • Lead on product launch strategy. Maintains project plan and coordinates organization's efforts.
  • Assists with the development of pricing models.
  • Develops product training for sales, partners and marketing.
  • Evangelizes product at tradeshows, seminars and other events.
  • Acts as product champion to promote products to sales and account management via training and answering ad hoc queries as well as communicating with external constituencies, including press and analysts.
  • Responsible for working with marketing communications to develop and implement market development plans that meet marketing, financial and corporate growth objectives.
  • Owns competitor intelligence.  Trains sales on competitive positioning, objections, and strengths and weaknesses.
  • Works with the VP of Marketing to develop outbound and inbound marketing programs for product launches and market communications.  This includes field and customer product support materials such as product collateral, sales kits and product promotions.

Software Engineer, Hearst Television Dedicated Team

Qualifications & Competencies Required:

The Software Engineer will be focused on design, development, and implementation of projects on Internet Broadcasting's new and legacy publishing platforms. You will be working on the Hearst Television (HTV) dedicated project team, using modern practices to develop software for our customers, enabling them to manage their websites and their content.

The main development effort will be in Java.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of our platform applications using Java CJ2EE).
  • Work with HTV project managers, UI designers, and internal development teams to analyze workflows and implementation strategies. .
  • Develop innovative, low-cost, and low-maintenance solutions for our customers utilizing software development best practices.
  • Development emphasis on high quality/high performance systems and object-oriented software development in a multi-tenant, multi-tier environment.
  • Write supporting technical documentation for all software development implementations.
  • Produce and maintain site code and technical data to meet system design specifications. Debug code and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Perform other software and development duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Work with our Hearst Television, designers, and internal development team to analyze, recommend and implement improved customer workflows and website features.
  • Responsible for the production and maintenance of customer web sites.
  • Produce and maintain site code and technical data to meet system design specifications.
  • Participate as project team member and contribute from a development standpoint on projects as conceived, designed, and executed.
